Rain, Cold Accompany 787's First FlightAfter years of delay, mostly attributed to Boeing executives' decision to build it elsewhere in modules at factories around the world, Chief 787 Pilot Mike Carriker and co-pilot Randy Neville taxied the big jet past thousands of onlookers to Runway 34 Left in Everett, Washington, where final assembly takes place.
Minutes later, with chase planes following, the Dreamliner smoothly accelerated down the runway at 10:27 a.m. Tuesday and climbed into the cold, gray sky just before typical Puget Sound Winter rain started falling again and visibility rapidly decreased.
