There's Talk On The Street
A Hotel California (1976) classic from the Long Road out of Eden tour (2008 - 2009), with lead guitar by Steuart Smith (Don Felder's replacement since 2001). The Eagles will be on tour again throughout North America starting April 16, 2010 at the Hollywood Bowl.
The core of Glen Frey & Don Henley present at all shows, but my first exposure was in 1973 at the Music Hall in Boston (Desperado tour), with the more countrified Bernie Leadon/Randy Meisner lineup. Then in San Diego the band headlined a 1979 Jerry Brown campaign fundraiser w/Chicago & Linda Ronstadt. That was the in the Don Felder/Tim Schmit/Joe Walsh era.
In 1990, at the Los Angeles convention of the late Radio & Records, a scheduled Henley solo performance was supplemented with an unannounced Eagles reunion encore as Frey, Felder & Schmit took the stage to thunderous applause... No small thing to get that kind of reaction out of ultra-jaded industry types.
But Joe was a no-show that night. It took another 4 years for hell to freeze over.
Every year, it's a weekend of emotional ambiguity marking two medical anniversaries with totally different outcomes.
More recently, a life saving surgery. In the distance, a reminder that one of the few potentially life saving amateur tools in which the public is trained fails 9 of 10 times.
The painful truth is that your best may not be enough to save a loved one. But because they are a loved one, you try... And live with the memory through your Sadderdays.
Ever see them live?
ReplyDeleteYes, 3 times.
