The Second Foreclosure Crisis

No Way, B of A

Bank of America, Chase and GMAC Mortgage (aka Ally, aka Ditech) have put tens of thousands of foreclosures on hold and lawmakers are calling for a nationwide moratorium after bank employees admitted they failed to conduct legally required required reviews.

The U.S. Justice Department is looking into charges of irregularities and possible wide spread fraud on the part of banks in foreclosure procedures. State Attorneys General have begun their own investigations. The 3 major lenders have suspended foreclosures in 23 states and a fourth lender has suspended sales of foreclosed homes nationwide. And thousands of legal proceedings across the country are showing that in the case of many mortgages, it’s hard to find out who owns the loan.

Come Together

Right Now... Over Me

A remarkable Lennon family event occurred in September, when John's first wife (Cynthia), the women he left her for (Yoko Ono), and sons Julian & Sean Lennon appeared together in New York at Julian's first photography exhibit... Today would've been John's 70th birthday.

Here's more on the formative years film "Nowhere Boy."

John Lennon's two sons grew up living completely different lives raised by two different people. And who would have thought his two long estranged families would ever come together in peace and harmony. But as Anthony Mason found out, they have.

In addition to the campaign consultants, lots of businesses use actors portraying real people, stock photos and/or film footage in their ads:

Air War Replaces Ground Game of Retail Politics

CNN's Jack Cafferty asked if it's better for candidate to stay off campaign trail or risk a mistake? By and large the ones who do use that tactic are the stooges (who're not ready for anything, let alone prime time) and funded by the same big money sources responsible for the Astroturf Tea Party charade.

It's being called the "year of the missing candidate." Politico reports how with only a month to go before the midterms, candidates in some key statewide races are missing in action on the campaign trail. Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell at the Values Voter Summit on September 17. They're skipping debates, ducking out on public events, refusing to publicize the ones they hold and opting out of interviews all together... Except to $ollict  $ with friends at Fox.

What Happens In Vegas

Sometimes Appears In The New York Times

Photo: "Outside City Center" by Monica Almeida / The New York Times
Local media is totally in the tank for the Las Vegas line... The public image promoted by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the state-funded public/private partnership which owns several exhibition & sports facilities, and the powerful politically-connected advertising company R&R Partners, which has controlled advertising the Las Vegas brand since 1982; recently renewed on a no bid basis.

While Las Vegans are all too aware of their record unemployment, foreclosures and overall economic malaise, they hoped that knowledge of what's happening here would stay here, and that outsiders wouldn't see Las Vegas as a bad bet. Reading your bad press in a journal of record doesn't help image, esteem or revenues.

The Sunday New York Times published columnist Adam Nagourney’s chronicle of a city in crisis, complete with a blow-by-blow look at recent economic events, coupled with commentary from local experts who see no light at the end of the tunnel... Totally at odds with the Las Vegas line and the kind of Chamber of Commerce-approved puff pieces served up by an easily swayed occasional free-lance stringer.

Fact is, Vegas can be a great relative bargain vacation now, if you're flush enough to afford it. But remember, the building boom in the city the mob chose as the place to separate Americans from their life savings wasn't funded because visitors left as winners.

Rick Sanchez missed the point of Jon Stewart's lampooning...
And maybe that's to be expected.
