Starve 'Em Out

As opening gavels sounded in state capitols, Northwest lawmakers face the arduous task of balancing their budgets. A new public radio poll reveals their constituents say:
  • Bring out the budget axe,
  • You better think twice before raising taxes and
  • Cut off illegal immigrants.
In Washington, one proposal would eliminate the state's food–stamp program for documented immigrants who can prove they're in the country legally. Social service advocates say that's going too far.
