Amelia Earhart: Aviation Icon

Federal officials are puzzled... Investigating whether two pilots on Northwest Airlines flight 188 to Minneapolis on Wednesday night dozed off, or were very distracted, when they didn’t respond to controllers' radio communications for more than 80 minutes and overshot their destination of Minneapolis by 150 miles.

Another famous flier, who lost radio contact and ulimately her life -- Amelia Earhart, vanished more than 70 years ago; but she never really disappeared from culture or consciousness. Historian Susan Ware says that’s because our image of her remains frozen in time as a brave, intelligent pioneering woman.

As the new biopic “Amelia” hit theaters, the author of “Still Missing: Amelia Earhart And The Search For Modern Feminism" discusses Earhart’s enduring appeal.
