Pervasive Abuse in Belgium

The new head of the Belgian Catholic Church has pledged to focus on the victims of alleged sexual abuse in a first attempt to rebuild public trust. An independent body to investigate the alleged abuse found it had occurred in every diocese over decades.

Pope Benedict XVI arrived in Britain on Thursday -- the first visit by a pope in nearly 30 years and the first papal state visit since King Henry VIII broke with Rome in 1534. The trip comes at a low point in Catholic-Anglican ties and under the weight of the clerical sex abuse crisis, and the perspective is different when viewed from Rome.
