Economist James Kwak says "the American dream" of home ownership was always a bad dream with respect to building wealth... A lot of risk, for returns that are modest at best–over the last century, when homes only gained about one percent a year in value.

Kwak is co-founder of the economy blog, “The Baseline Scenario,” and co-author, with economist Simon Johnson, of “13 Bankers: The Wall Street Takeover And The Next Financial Meltdown.”
