La Donna Redux


Whether you translate "mobile" as changeable, fickle or even unstable, there's no doubt "La donna è mobile" became the closest thing to an instant hit that 1851 Italy could offer.

Within days of its debut the song from the opera "Rigoletto" was being sung in the streets... By men who puzzled over their women's changes of mood, mind or heart.

    If you move the squares around to make the picture, they don't exactly line up right.

    Being a bit disjointed could be inadvertent or not. You might see it as an artifact of artistic approach, an unconscious bit of self-disclosure... Or a deliberately crafted extra layer to the puzzle and/or person.

    But remember moving the pieces around is manipulation, and not all people who present puzzles want to be solved.

    Good art makes you feel or think & question. In any case it moves some part of you. So I guess it works as art. I know it works with the song. That works for me.
