Anchor Babies Away

A new report from the Pew Hispanic Center (pdf) estimates that eight percent of all the babies born in the U.S. in 2008 had at least one parent who was in the country illegally. And 4 of 5 children born to families where one or both parents is an "unauthorized immigrant" were born in the United States during long term stays.

For conservatives thinking of ending birthright citizenship by an overhaul or repeal the 14th Amendment, those are the kinds of numbers they can stump on. Add that Latinos have more children than Anglos, and start reproducing at an earlier age... You've got a lot of demographic fuel to throw on the fire of xenophobic fear.
